Covering more than 80 per cent of the state, it's a region of great diversity: from the pink parallel dunes of the Simpson Desert down to Mount Remarkable Wines and gulf cruises in the south. You'll find ancient ranges steeped in Aboriginal legend, bird-filled lakes in the middle of the desert and pretty Flinders Ranges towns celebrating the history of heroic pioneers who opened up the continent with the Overland Telegraph and the Old Ghan railway. There are great attractions and experiences in the southern, central and northern regions of the Flinders Ranges, so take the time to discover them all on your journey north. Please take me to Australia - find photos, videos, accommodation, sightseeing, tours, car rentals, package holidays and attractions around Australia. The plan was to fly from Parafield to Coober Pedy, spend the night and then fly back. A fellow student was to do the first leg and I was gonna fly back. This was the flight to Coober Pedy with me in the back. Planned route: Parafield - Dublin - Pernatty (homestead) - Andamooka - Coober Pedy, a total of 433 miles. After passing St Kilda (0:54) we were flying right into a 30-40kts headwind and ground speed was really slow. We soon realised that we were gonna have to stop for fuel somewhere as we were not gonna make it all the way to Coober Pedy with ground speed like that. The choice was easy, as Port Pirie has a self served bowser with credit card facilities. So we landed there (2:26) and refuelled (3:34). After that, we overflew Port Augusta and headed straight for the homestead of Pernatty (5:42) and from there on to Andamooka along Lake Torrens in order to avoid the restricted Woomera area. Between Andamooka and Coober Pedy we were even outside VFR coverage and got a charter plane flying to Olympic Dam to relay our amended SARTIME to Melbourne Centre. The spectacular outback scenery was a huge bonus on an invaluable navigation experience.","video_duration":"687","owner_handle":"kyrkjoy","upload_date":"22 March 2011","update_date":"24 August 2011","aspect_ratio":"widescreen","latitude":"-29.03786087","longitude":"134.72207642","video_rating":"5.0","rating_count":"4","view_count":"783","like_count":"4","favorite_count":"3","comment_count":"1"},{"video_id":"ag1UINkiLGc","video_title":"Coober Pedy (6\/6), opal mining in Australia","video_description":"odd place in the desert \/ 2116\/3(3.5)","video_duration":"273","owner_handle":"waltwide","upload_date":"31 July 2008","update_date":"02 April 2012","aspect_ratio":"","latitude":"-29.02735519","longitude":"134.75830078","video_rating":"5.0","rating_count":"4","view_count":"2307","like_count":"4","favorite_count":"2","comment_count":"3"},{"video_id":"bjomq-HKLd4","video_title":"Coober Pedy - opal mining, Australia","video_description":"the full length original: 'impressions with a handycam'","video_duration":"1485","owner_handle":"waltwide","upload_date":"11 February 2011","update_date":"18 April 2012","aspect_ratio":"","latitude":"-29.01774788","longitude":"134.74731445","video_rating":"5.0","rating_count":"4","view_count":"2080","like_count":"4","favorite_count":"0","comment_count":"0"},{"video_id":"uGbwZ1j0X9I","video_title":"Coober Pedy (5\/6), opal mining in Australia","video_description":"finding the elusive opal and searching for more \/ 4259\/2(4.5)","video_duration":"205","owner_handle":"waltwide","upload_date":"31 July 2008","update_date":"04 July 2011","aspect_ratio":"","latitude":"-29.01774788","longitude":"134.75830078","video_rating":"5.0","rating_count":"3","view_count":"3467","like_count":"3","favorite_count":"1","comment_count":"7"},{"video_id":"e8r5Zcj60k0","video_title":"Coober Pedy (3\/6), opal mining in Australia","video_description":"drilling a shaft for the opal mine\/ 3708\/4(4.5)","video_duration":"224","owner_handle":"waltwide","upload_date":"29 July 2008","update_date":"04 July 2011","aspect_ratio":"","latitude":"-29.03696060","longitude":"134.73632813","video_rating":"5.0","rating_count":"3","view_count":"4234","like_count":"3","favorite_count":"4","comment_count":"1"},{"video_id":"tSkMnKQj0pY","video_title":"Coober Pedy (2\/6), opal mining in Australia","video_description":"the opal fields\/ 2302\/3(4.5)","video_duration":"166","owner_handle":"waltwide","upload_date":"28 July 2008","update_date":"04 July 2011","aspect_ratio":"","latitude":"-29.01294518","longitude":"134.74731445","video_rating":"4.0","rating_count":"4","view_count":"5605","like_count":"3","favorite_count":"5","comment_count":"1"},{"video_id":"bCU-QTW32go","video_title":"Old Timers Mine, Coober Pedy","video_description":"Relive History at Coober Pedy's Old Timers Mine, Coober Pedy - This attraction incorporates two underground homes 1918 to 1990, walk through mine 1916, two sandstone sculptures (camel and miner) and many other displays in our Museum on Coober Pedy. - Only place in the world where you see three large good quality rough opal seams and opalised sea shells in the roof as it was found. - A visit to the mine is your opportunity to learn, and to see, how the miners of yesteryear worked and lived in candlelight conditions to find a trace of opal - See SA Museum authenticate Fossils - Unique rare opal pieces on show for sale - Demonstrations of Opal Mining Tunneling Machine and Blower and Opal cutting. - The Tour is self guided with written guides in a number of different Languages.
